Facebook Lurker/Stalker
Description:
A person, usually a young adult ages 16-24, who continuously goes on the online social network Facebook and repeatedly goes to the same individuals profiles. Usually they spend hours on other peoples profiles, studying the individual and memorizing their favorite movies, books, quotes, and even keeps track of the comments on their profiles. If possible, the Facebook Lurker/Stalker will go through a persons photo albums to learn everything about them. They may even save a few of these photos onto their files, and depending on the degree of obsession, may even photoshop themselves into pictures of complete strangers. This gives the lurker/stalker the feeling of being involved in this persons life.
Whats the difference between a Facebook lurker/stalker and a regular lurker/stalker?
A regular stalker or lurker usually relies on their physical ability to stalk a person. They will rumage through their obsessions mail, follow them down streets and into stores, or just sit outside their house and wait for them to walk past a window. Lurker is in most context the same as a stalker, where they lurk in the shadows observing someone. A stalker may be more crazy in the sense that they may actually attempt to contact the person they are stalking. Facebook lurkers generally avoid physical closeness with their obsession, and just wander through the Facebook profile of the person they are lurking on or stalking. A Facebook stalker might take it a step further, and attends parties that they see their obsession is planning on attending.
The social online network Facebook allows people to put up personal information about themselves on the internet, and allows them to find other people with similar interests as them or similar backgrounds. Generally friends will "friend" each other on Facebook, meaning they add them to a list of "Friends" so they can see the other persons complete profile and leave them comments and "tag" them in pictures (meaning that if they have a picture with that person they label that person in the picture and it'll show up on both profiles). This network allows stalkers/lurkers new ways to keep tabs on people. Thus, they are not normal stalkers or lurkers, but instead they are Facebook lurkers/stalkers. More commonly though peoples lurker qualities are private. People can Facebook stalk/lurk as much as they please in the privacy of their home with little judgment from anyone.
Examples
A female college student may find that a creepy guy shows up everywhere she goes. He always knows what parties shes going to, and he tells her he loves the same books and movies as she does. She has never seen him before in her life. This is a Facebook Stalker.
